R&B Hitmaker Angie Stone Dies in Car Crash

Grammy-nominated R&B artist Angie Stone has died in a car crash at age 63, her daughter confirmed.

“My mommy is gone,” her daughter, Diamond Stone, wrote in a Facebook post.

Stone suffered fatal injuries when a van she traveled in overturned in Alabama early Saturday after a performance, according to media reports.

The artist, famous for songs like “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” earned three Grammy nominations during her career. She started her musical journey in the 1970s as part of the female hip-hop trio The Sequence.

The group’s biggest hit, “Funk You Up,” reached No. 15 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart.

Her daughter, a musician known as Ladi Diamond, expressed her grief on Facebook, saying she felt “numb.” Hours earlier, she had asked for prayers for her family while on the road.

A spokesperson for Stone’s family told the BBC that relatives traveled to Montgomery, Alabama, and planned to share more details soon.

Guy Todd Williams, also known as Rahiem from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, said that about nine other passengers rode in the van with Stone at the time.

“She left her indelible mark on the music industry, first as a member of the legendary rap group Sequence,” Williams said.

He confirmed that Stone was the only fatality in the crash.

The BBC has contacted Montgomery police for further details.

Beyond music, Stone also succeeded in film. She made her acting debut in “The Hot Chick,” a 2002 hit starring Rob Schneider, Rachel McAdams, and Anna Faris. She later appeared in “The Fighting Temptations” (2003) alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyoncé.
